Even The Birds Are HOT

We are under attack. The weather went from a mild 70's & 80's to a scorching 95 to 105. It is hot, hotter than Hades. Where did the weather come from? How do we go from a nice mild climate to HOT? Not sure, but it does. It's pretty bad when you wake up and already have boob sweat or ball sweat (depending on who you are).

So for the past two days we have been trying to stay cool in this crazy hot weather...with little success. I live in an old house that doesn't have central heat, nor does it have air conditioning. With any luck we will put in a window unit which really only cools off the living room. I guess it's better than nothing. When the window unit does go in it's because dear, loving hubby can't take the heat anymore...he is not fond of HOT weather. Back to the last two days....my house stays somewhat cool til about 2 and then it heats up and fast. We have been staying inside trying to stay cool, moving as slowly as a sloth so as not to produce heat from our movement.

Today the boys wanted to pull out the pool a friend gave us a few years ago. My BIL was home and together the boys pulled it out, cleaned it up, and proceeded to fill it up.....on his deck. Very redneck, hillbilly.....when you're that hot nobody even cares. The boys and their cousins had such a great time splashing, jumping, floating they didn't want it to end. They were very disappointed when I called them in for dinner. However, as soon as dinner was over they infiltrated Julia's deck and continued to enjoy the refreshingly cool water.

Apparently we weren't the only ones suffering the heat. Our birds were feeling it too. They look pretty funny when they are hot. They hold their wings out to the side, just like I hold my arms to the side in the truck with the AC full blast. They also have their beaks wide open and pant, almost like they just can't get oxygen quite fast enough. This is Rhodie, our Rhode Island Red, you can see his wings out and his beak is slightly open. Now picture all 15 birds like this. They stand as still as possible while they try to cool off.

You know it's hot when the birds start to pant. We had low 80's yesterday and it was so nice after cold and rain.

OMG you said ball sweat! Ahhh, it's those little things that make me smile.
We are going to get hit with the heat this week, but nothing like that!
And who cares how redneck anything is when you just want to be in the water! I usually turn the lawn spinklers on and let Nico play in them. I haven't bought the fancy 50 pool to set up yet. I suppose once I get sick of the heat then I'll get on it!
Between you and Julia I always learn something about farms and animals. I never knew chickens got hot. It's not like they have a lot of fat on them. I guess it would be like me wearing a boa around my neck. That would be no fun!

I had forgotten about the chickens. They were panting under their feathers. Maybe spray them down next time!

Sounds miserable. I hope you (and the birds) cool off soon.

I love that you mention boob sweat! Of course I've never experienced it myself, I'm just sayin.

Ok, the rooster looks a little freaky to me, 15 of them doing that all at once is like a scene out of Birds!

When I was a girl we had a Rhode Island Red too and I can remember seeing her do this same thing in hot weather.

I hope you guys get some relief from the heat soon!

I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe! :0)

Thanks for visiting my Blog! Our weather has been crazy too! Going from cool 80's to 100's over night is dreadful! Oh how I hate boob sweat!

Yikes! We were just discussing this crazy weather last night. It is COLD here and it should be very warm. Ridiculous.

HOLY COW....how do you survive those temps without an air conditioner. I'd be a puddle crying in the corner...either that or sitting in my car all day with the AC on...or sitting in the pool with the kids!!!

boob sweat, ball sweat......hahahahaha!
we knew this guy for something like A DAY. He was picking his kids up from the neighborhood pool and Dean asked what he was up to. He said "I'm on my way home and plan on letting my balls air out." I almost choked.
What do you say to that? HA!
