It all started with a seed

Back in January I started my garden. Crazy? Maybe. I don't have a green house and our combined families love to eat tomatoes. I won't buy the ones sold in the stores, they just don't compare. So this is what I started with, a few very small seeds. Aren't they cute?

Next came the planting of the seeds in Peet Pots.

Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture of all the cups full of dirt. I think you get the idea.

These are the tomatoes after they were transplanted to larger cups. Like my ant? He is guarding my tomatoes from uncertain disaster.

And these are just 2 out of 7 swanky tomato cages. My BIL mad the square one and my dear, loving hubby made the triangular one.

There are more cages, but I'm sure you get the idea. Now I just need to coerce my dear, loving hubby into making oh, about 15 more of these very sturdy, swanky tomato cages. After all spending money on those cheesy, thin wire cages is simply a waste.

Fun!! I wish I had a garden!

I'm finishing law school, about to take the Bar Exam in July. Yuck!

Here's a clue for the riddle: it has to do with "eating oats" :)

xoxo!

The monster cages will suffice for now... Just think in about four years you will have accumulated enough for all the plants. Doing the math that will be a savings of approximately 70/year over say 20 years so 1400 dollars. Maybe you need to run the numbers to get more cages out of MR Stingy.

Wow, what else do you have in your garden? I'm trying celery for the first time. I'll see how that goes. I have the usual carrots peas, cucumbers, potatoes, parsley, and onions. I've cooked with the parsley once already.

I'd LOVE to do a vegetable garden with my kids. Too bad I know absolutely nothing about gardening. :(

Can't wait to see your harvests!

what did he make the cages out of, rebar? couldn't exactly tell, and which is better do you think- triangle or square? I have to so something different this year, I tried to tie mine up last year and they were too big, just didn't work.

I am with you on the 'maters, Homegrown is the best. I just planted 3 different heirloom tomatoes and some others. I just hope all this rain doesn't kill them.

Love that giant ant!

There is nothing in this world better than homegrown tomatoes. I could eat them like apples. It's the one thing I am going to try growing (well, I'm going to try to grow other stuff too but the tomatoes are the one thing I'll try really hard not to kill).

I loved your photos. I started my first tomato seeds this year back in February. They are in the green house now waiting for it to be warm enough to go into the dirt. So far, I've only killed a couple.
I had a great time with this post and thanks for sharing your adventures with tomatoes.

Homegrown tomatoes are the best for sure! I grew up in the country and my dad had a garden each year...man, I enjoyed those fresh fruits and veggies! Now I'm in a city with no space for a garden- good luck with yours and enjoy the veggies!

Holy crap that's a lot of plants! I am not that ambitious. The only thing I can grow (if you wanna call it that) is flowers in my flower beds and I can hardly keep them things alive!

Nothing beats fresh tomatoes right off of the vine!

Thanks for stopping by my blog & helping to make my SITS day special!

15 more?? That is a BUTTload of tomatos. Though you didn't mention what you were planning to do with them; I'm too lazy to can or pickle or make salsa, personally, and 5 plants last year was way more than I needed.

Sweet cages though!
